CCPO IDENTIFIES PERSONS OF INTEREST IN MURDER OF CPDRC INMATE, JAIL GUARDS

- KAL

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has identified possible persons of interest in the ambush-slay of two jail guards and an inmate in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City. Senior Supt. Royina Garma, CCPO director, said that inmate Jerryfer Perigrino, an alleged big-time drug personality, may have been the main target of the attack. She did not elaborate on the possible personalities who may be involved as it might hamper their investigation. The police official said investigators will determine why Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) guards Bernie Bayotas and Joel Teves were included by the assailants. The investigators, she said, will look into the report that Perigrino and fellow CPDRC inmate Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro, who was also a suspected drug lord, were at odds. Perigrino allegedly reported to a CPDRC official that Alvaro masterminded the smuggling of illegal drugs inside CPDRC, which is located in Kalunasan. Garma said personal grudge is one of the motives they are looking into. Investigators from Guadalupe Police Station, Cebu Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), CCPO and crime laboratory held a case conference yesterday. PIB is included as Perigrino had been identified a drug personality operating in the Cebu Province. Teves and Bayotas were taking Perigrino to court on board a CPDRC van for the formal filing of charges against the inmate for illegal drug possession when they were attacked around 9 a.m. last Thursday. /
