Four marks sink in swimming Day 1
Four records were shattered in the first day of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) swimming competition at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) swimming pool yesterday.
Three records in the relay category and one in the individual were reset by the tankers from the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.
SHS-AdC tanker Lorraine Hann took the spotlight as she reset a decade-old record in the girls’ 200-meter backstroke. Hann clocked 2 minutes and 45.81 seconds to shatter the 2008 record of 2:49.58 set by Larrisa Ann Ang.
Hann was also part of the 4x100m medley relay team of SHS-AdC together with Fionna Alcoseba, Sophia Maxine Chua and Ysis Lois Remedio that set a new record of 5:29.01.
The SHS-AdC 4x100m medley relay team erased the record of 5:36.69 set by UC in 2009.
UC took the silver medal in the 4x100m relay after clocking 5:35.97 and the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) placed third with a time of 5:37.59.
UC also set a new benchmark in the girls’ 4x100m freestyle relay with a time of 4:50.11, erasing the SHS-AdC’s record of 4:55.00 set last year.
SHS-AdC took the silver medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay in 4:50.59, also eclipsing last year’s record. USC-BED bagged bronze medal in 5:09.69.
The fourth record that was broken was the boys’ 4x50m medley relay by SHS-AdC. The team of siblings Joel Martin and Joshua Mikhail Tubesa, June Byoung Jeon and Rudson Nino Oliva clocked 2:06.42 to beat UC’s record of 2:06.84 set in 2016. /
