China, PH: Celebrating 69
The Chinese Consulate in Cebu hosted a grand reception at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu grand ballroom to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Celebration host Consul General Shi Yong, in welcoming his guests, took the occasion to talk about the progress of his country since its founding, and of the “steady growth of relations between China and the Philippines.”
Consul General Shi Yong also used the celebration to announce the end of his stint in Cebu and that he was very happy about contributing his “bit to our bilateral friendship and cooperation,” and grateful to his friends from “the government, business community, media and other sectors” for this improvement of bilateral relations and of the support given to the Consulate.
This year, the Consulate donated an ambulance to Oslob, where many Chinese tourists go for whale watching, and sports equipment to the Negros Oriental Drug Rehabilitation Foundation Inc. And at the National Day reception, Consul General Shi Yong made a ceremonial turnover of physical and occupational equipment for Persons with Disability to the Province of Cebu, with Gov. Hilario Davide and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale accepting the donation. Also turned over ceremonially were desktop computers for the Cebu City Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP), accepted by Cebu City Councilor Sisinio Andales and DMDP head Fidel Magno, and 110 hospital beds for the Cebu City Medical Center, accepted by Councilor Mary Ann de los Santos.
While Chinese folk dances were performed on stage, a sumptuous dinner was served to the hundreds of guests present at the celebration.
The reception ended with Consul General Yong hopping from table to table, personally thanking his guests as he bade them goodbye, saying he would miss Cebu.
