Former PNP chief donates P100K to landslide victims
Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa turns over a P100,000 check donation to the City Government of Naga for the benefit of landslide victims.
Accompanied by friends and local supporters, the retired Philippine National Police director turned over the check to City of Naga Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong at City Hall at 7 a.m. yesterday.
The donation was made a few days before the start of the filing of candidacies for aspiring candidates for the May 2019 elections.
Dela Rosa had announced he is running for senator.
But in an interview, Dela Rosa said the money not only came from him but also from friends and supporters. He said it is not part of an early political campaign.
“Unta di lang lainon pagsabot kay di man pod to akoang personal nga kwarta tanan. Amot-amot man to sa atong mga amigo aron makatabang lang diri sa atong mga kababayan nga naglisod tungod sa disgrasya (I hope that they will not misinterpret my gesture, especially since the money didn’t all come from me but was gathered by my friends to help our fellowmen who are suffering because of the landslide),” Dela Rosa said.
He said he often provides help to others, whether it’s election time or not.
As of yesterday, the City Government of Naga had received more than P12 million worth of cash donations for the landslide survivors.
Aside from private individuals, local government units from Cebu also donated amounts to the city to help those affected by the landslide in Barangay Tina-an more than two weeks ago. /
