PHINMA WELCOMES FIRST BATCH OF SCHOLARS
Part of Southwestern University (SWU) Phinma’s main thrusts as an institution is to provide quality education that is transformative and accessible, and over the years, it has realized this important canon through its scholarship programs.
Last Oct. 12, SWU Phinma introduced its latest batch of scholars at the newly built library at the SWU Phinma Hall. This group includes the second batch of the Presidential and Chairman’s scholars and the first ever batch of Phinma scholars.
While the Presidential and Chairman’s Scholarship was launched last year, the Phinma Scholarship was introduced just this year. It is a yearly grant given to qualified graduating senior high school students and science high school students. Free tuition and a monthly allowance will be granted to 24 recipients. Unlike the Presidential and Chairman’s Scholarship, which are granted to medicine students, this scholarship caters to students who want to pursue degrees outside of medicine.
In a nutshell, applicants go through an intensive application and screening process, which includes written tests, an evaluation of grades as well as an interview with a panel. Vice president for student life Gilbert Braganza said: “These scholarships help level the playing field and give equal opportunities for young, deserving individuals to access quality education.” /
