Where are the projects?

- EDITOR: CANDIDO O. WENCESLAO / opinion@sunstar.com.ph

Whatever happened to the plan to build a coastal road going to south Cebu? This is very important considering how easily the road going south especially from Talisay to Carcar easily gets clogged even with minir accidents.

I remember all the talk about the coastal road during the elections in 2016. There were candidates who even promised to reclaim coastal areas also in the south. Asa na man ni?

I thought this is part of the government’s “Build, Build, Build Program.” But even that program is no longer talked about. I heard mind-boggling projects like a bridge connecting Mactan island to Bohol and even a bridge connecting Cebu province to Negros Oriental. Asa na man ni?

The election is near. Will we be again talking about it now?--Desiderio Escalante, Cebu City

A salute to Judge Soriano Branch 148 last Monday in refusing to order the arrest of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV for coup d’etat after President Duterte voided his 2011 amnesty is a triumph of justice and the rule of law.

Judge Andres Soriano has shown that in these times when the rule of law has been under siege, there are still members of the judiciary who act in accordance with law and the dictates of their conscience, and who can resist pressure and temptations of official favors like judicial promotions.

We therefore salute Judge Andres Soriano for his courage, independence and probity–-qualifications that every member of the judiciary should possess to preserve judicial independence and strengthen our republican system of government.

We urge the government to act with restraint in its sinister moves to silence its critics because criticism is an ingredient of our democratic system.-Free Legal Assistance Group (Flag) 7
