Demecillo seeks revenge against Villanueva

- EKA

Six years ago, Arthur Villanueva totally outclassed then-unbeaten Marco Demecillo in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super flyweight title fight in Davao City.

Villanueva handed Marco his first career defeat in a unanimous decision shutout.

Next month, Marco’s younger brother, Carlo Demecillo, has a chance to avenge him, as he’s slated in a 10-rounder against Villanueva in the undercard of Pinoy Pride 45 on Nov. 24 at the IEC Convention Center.

“I think that is on his mind. He wants to avenge his brother’s loss,” said Christopher “Ping-Ping” Tepora, Carlo’s coach at the Big Yellow Boxing Gym in Talisay City. “This is a very important fight for him. He has been preparing for this. Arthur is not an easy opponent.”

After a controversial split decision to Indonesian journeyman Ruben Manakane in Jakarta last March, the 22-year-old Carlo bounced back with a second round stoppage win over Margarito Moya.

“We don’t want to predict anything. We’ll just show it in the ring,” said Tepora.

Demecillo has been sparring at the Big Yellow Boxing Gym with stable mate Allan Villanueva, an unbeaten featherweight.

“We are working on his stamina. It is important that he will be able to trade punches and finish the whole 10-round fight,” said Tepora, whose younger brother is interim World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion Jhack Tepora.

A win over Villanueva should be Carlo’s ticket for bigger fights. The 29-year-old Villanueva, a twotime world title challenger, is currently rated No. 12 in the World Boxing Council (WBC).

“This should be a good fight because Carlo Demecillo has skills. This also serves as a revenge for his brother Marco. This should be an exciting match-up,” said ALA Promotions matchmaker Edito Villamor.

Carlo is 11-5 with five knockouts, while Villanueva is 32-3 with 18 knockouts.

On the other hand, Fil-Japanese Go Hosaka (10, 1 KO) now has an opponent in one of the undercard bouts,

The 22-year-old former amateur standout is facing Jason Tinampay (8-11-1, 7 KOs) in a sixround fight.

Hosaka was signed by ALA Promotions last December to a long-term promotional contract.

The event features a World Boxing Organization (WBO) title triple header.

Jeo Santisima (16-2, 14 KOs) defends his WBO Oriental super bantamweight strap against Mexican Uriel Lopez (13-6-1, 6 KOs).

Albert Pagara (30-1, 21 KOs) also defends his WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight belt against Ghanaian George Krampah (14-3, 12 KOs).

KJ Cataraja (8-0, 7 KOs) trades leather with Mexican Hugo Reyes (9-1-1, 7 KOs) for the vacant WBO Youth super flyweight crown.

Also in the undercard, one-time world-title challenger Jonas Sultan (14-4, 9 KOs) is up against grizzled veteran Ardin Diale (34-12-4, 16 KOs) in a 10-round fight.

Undefeated Lorenz Ladrada (5-0-1, 2 KOs) takes on unheralded Ramel Antaran (3-11-1) in a fourround fight, while Regie Suganob makes his pro debut against fellow newcomer Mark Torela in another four-rounder. /
