Drugs, weapons confiscate­d in ‘Clean Jail’ operation in the city

Authoritie­s seized illegal drugs, bladed weapons and other contraband during a surprise search on Friday morning, Nov. 2, in the male dormitory of Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan.

The operation, Oplan Linis Piitan (Clean Jail), was carried out by the joint team from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 7, Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency (Pdea) 7 and Cebu City Police Office.

No untoward incident among law enforcers and inmates happened during the search.

Seized during the operation dubbed Oplan Linis Piitan (Clean Jail) were 15 pieces of tin foil and 19 small sachets containing a white crystallin­e substance believed to be shabu.

Other contraband seized were 10 cellular phones, five cellular phone chargers, five rolls of improvised rope and nylon strings, nine disposable lighters, two decks of playing cards, 26 improvised bladed weapons, two metallic spoons and forks and two metal bars.

Two sniffing dogs from the Pdea 7 helped in locating the contraband in the jail. The search ended at 7 a.m. on the same day.

Last August, the BJMP 7 destroyed more than a thousand contraband items found in jails during its 27th founding anniversar­y.

The contraband items were confiscate­d from the male and female dormitorie­s of the jails of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Talisay City. /
