Z Club brings campaign vs. teenage pregnancy to public schools
The Philippines has one of the highest cases of teenage pregnancy in Asia, a result of a lack of proper education, among other reasons. Teens already go through numerous daily troubles. That’s why they must be equipped with the proper knowledge and life skills to help them. Proper education can truly empower girls and boys to feel in control of their lives and make better decisions.
Last Oct. 11, 2018, the Z Club of Childlink High School Cebu, in cooperation with the Zonta Club of Cebu II, launched #There’s Joy in Life, a campaign against teenage pregnancy at the Ramon Duterte High School, a public school with about 8,000 junior and senior high school students.
The campaign started with a short talk by Zonta Club of Cebu II’s Dr. Florencia Miel, who talked about the causes, effects and prevention of teenage pregnancy.
Workshops that were spearheaded by the Z Club members followed, including song-writing workshops, poster and slogan making and role play activities, which the students presented.
The workshop activities in the module are designed to help teenagers develop their interests and potentials to improve their self-esteem. Through the activity, the club hopes the teens realize that they do not have to go into sexual encounters and relationships due to peer pressure or as an escape from their teenage struggles, and that there is a need to love and take care of themselves more for their own good.
