PB member quits chairmanships

-

Out of delicadeza, Provincial Board (PB) Member Christopher Baricuatro has resigned from his post as chairman of two major committees, a Capitol official said yesterday.

In an interview yesterday, Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said Baricuatro resigned from his post as chairman of the PB committees on health and education during their caucus last Monday, Nov. 5.

Magpale said Baricuatro resigned from his committee chairmanships after his father, Dumanjug Councilor Cesar Baricuatro, decided to run for mayor against incumbent town Mayor Guntrano Gica.

The older Baricuatro, also a former mayor of Dumanjug, is allied with PDP-One Cebu of congresswoman and gubernatorial Gwendolyn Garcia.

The younger Baricuatro, though originally allied with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), will now run as an independent candidate for the PB position of the seventh district of Cebu.

Baricuatro’s resignation will be formalized in the next regular session on Monday, Nov. 12.

Following Baricuatro’s resignation, PB Members Victoria Corominas and Jerome Librando will serve as chairpersons of the committees on health and education.

Magpale said she was saddened by Baricuatro’s sudden resignation.

During their caucus, Baricuatro told Magpale that despite his father’s alliance with PDP-One Cebu, he wanted to remain politically neutral. /
