Solon passes resolution on festival party rules
The Cebu City Council has formally reminded all sectors to comply with all the guidelines during the week-long celebration of Sinulog 2019 in January.
Passing a resolution sponsored by Councilor Dave Tumulak, the Council requested business establishments, particularly bars, not to hold any event like street parties within the 300-meter radius along the Sinulog Parade route during the grand parade.
The grand parade is held every third Sunday of January.
“To make the festivity more meaningful, lively and dynamic, and for a smooth and orderly celebration of the event, there should be no entertainment that should be held in the premises of the Sinulog route,” the resolution stated.
Putting of loud speakers and other sound devices along the route is also prohibited.
To come up with a wellplanned activity, the Council also requested all event organizers to submit their proposals and safety and security plans for the Sinulog festivity to the office of the chairman of the committee on public order and safety by Dec. 14, 2018.
All establishments near the parade route are also encouraged to open and make available their comfort rooms for a minimal fee during the Sinulog festivity.
The Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor and Office of the City Markets are also mandated to come up with policies and guidelines on street vending during the Sinulog week.
Apart from traffic and security concerns, Tumulak said, the guidelines on street vending is also needed for sanitary purposes.
Since influx of people is expected at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, a portion of Osmeña Blvd., particularly within 10 meters from the perimeter fence of the church, particularly along the corners of D. Jakosalem St., and P. Burgos St., is declared a no-parking zone from Jan. 10 to 20.
