LANDMASTERS TO MAKE OVER PATRIA

-

Efforts to breathe new life into downtown Cebu have taken motion and Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) joins in this initiative with the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Visayas and Mindanao property developer CLI signed a 40-year lease agreement with the Archdiocese of Cebu to redevelop the Patria de Cebu, a 6,670-square-meter property right in front of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. What was previously a youth recreation center and then a convent for nuns is now a hostel for budget travelers.

Part of the master plan includes office and retail spaces, a hotel and a Rome-inspired piazza—a highlight of the project. Aside from being a leisure destination, the development will also serve as communal space for churchgoers due to its proximity to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

Last Oct. 29, the two parties: CLI and the Archdiocese of Cebu, officially sealed the partnership with a contract signing at the 38 Park Avenue showroom of Cebu I.T. Park. At the event, Bong Racio, principal architect of the Patria de Cebu project, unveiled the perspectives of the area. In attendance was Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma.

“This will enliven this part of the city while preserving its heritage,” said Jose Soberano III, CLI president and chief executive officer.

CLI hopes to start excavation at the start of 2019 with construction to follow right after. Once this project commences, the developer will also be working towards developing the surrounding areas to create a harmonious environment with Patria de Cebu.
