Two Cebuanos made it to the top 10 of the Physician Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last September 2018.

Martin Angelo Tan Zanoria, a graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine, held the second spot with a rating of 90.92 percent.

Zanoria is only a couple of decimals behind Kurl Eduvas Jamora of the De La Salle Medicine and Health Sciences Institute who took the top spot with 91.08 percent.

Also in the top 10 is Aaron Lemuel Yu Ong, who is also an alumnus of the Cebu Institute of Medicine. He ranked seventh with a rating of 89.92 percent.

It was always Ong’s dream to become a doctor, so placing seventh was just a cherry on top.

“I think ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to become a doctor and I just want to be able to help people through medicine. It was always interesting to me so I decided to take up medicine,” he said.

Ong added that when one is in dire straits, one must learn to grasp at straws.

Ong said topping the exam is just a bonus.

“You don’t get rewarded overnight. It is years of hard work and years of determination.” he said.

Ong, the only doctor in the family, is in the US for a vacation.

The PRC announced that out of 4,542 examinees, only 3,717 passed.

The Cebu Institute of Medicine was also hailed as the top performing school in the license examination with 99.33 percent of its examinees passing the test.

Second is the University of Santo Tomas with 98.33 percent.

In third place is the University of the Philippines-Manila with 98.59 percent.

I think ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to become a doctor and I just want to be able to help people through medicine. It was always interesting to me so I decided to take up medicine.
