Radaza tells young citizens to be responsible netizens

- FROM FVQ OF SUPERBALITA CEBU

Be responsible in using social media.

This was the message of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza during her State of the Children’s Report last Friday, Nov. 9.

Despite the generation gap, Radaza tries to reach out to the youth, especially the younger Oponganons. Radaza is quite adept at what the millennials are up to so that she posed for a selfie onstage before she started her speech. Her audience, mostly composed of children, were the background.

Radaza also owns a personal social media account where she said a lot of the youth would message her about their personal concerns.

“If you don’t go down and connect with them, lisod gyud kaayo (This is really hard),” said Radaza.

It is important that the older generation keep up with the modern times especially with technology.

Among the youth-oriented projects Radaza proudly presented in front of around 10,000 constituents gathered at the Hoops Dome were the improvement of the city college, giving of cash incentives to students who pass licensure or board examinations and the protection of children’s rights.

Children had a field day during Lapu-Lapu City’s celebration of the National Children’s Month. They were treated to a Disney-inspired show outside the Hoops Dome--a carnival that provided free rides and food that children enjoy like ice cream.

“Best day ever!” some of the children yelled while lining up for their free rides and drinks. /
