Sunstar bags investigative report award at 40th CMMA

-

SunStar Cebu’s managing editor Cherry Ann T. Lim bagged this year’s Best Investigative Report award at the 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards Night held in Manila on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Lim’s four-part report, “Crushing Drugs: Battle on Many Fronts,” published on April 25 to April 28, shows the transformation of the Church as it undertakes its new apostolate of helping recovering drug addicts in Cebu.

The report also reveals why more than 40,000 drug surrenderers haven’t undergone rehab, the changed lives of those who have, and the importance of the family and protecting human rights in the war against drugs.

SunStar’s other entries also became finalists, namely, “Wasted Children” by Lim for the Best Special Feature, “Rebuilding Marawi” by Josua Cabrera for Best Editorial Cartoon and “Lolo Toring” by chief photographer Alex Badayos.

The awarding was held at the Star Theater, Star City, CCP Complex on Sotto St. in Pasay City.

Wednesday’s CMMA Awards night with the theme “The truth will set you free” ( John 8:32)” marked the 40th year of the award-giving body established by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin in 1978.

It was organized by the Archdiocese of Manila.

Lim also took home the same award last November 2013 for her series “Greening Cebu: Help or hazard?” with Bernadette Parco; on October 2014 for the series “Cordova: Cybersex Capital?” with Rebelander S. Basilan, Gerome M. Dalipe and Davinci S. Maru; and last year for the series “After the Tokhang.”
