Naga’s 412 inmates await transfer to Cebu City facility

-

The City of Naga Jail’s 412 inmates will be transferred to the old female dormitory of the Cebu City Jail (CCJ) in Barangay Kalunasan by the end of November.

This decision was reached by the jail officials following the discovery of tension cracks in the slope near the new penal facility in Barangay Naalad nearly two months after the landslide hit Barangay Tinaan last Sept. 20.

Naga Jail Warden Roberto Crisanto Alpon III told SunStar Cebu that the warden of the CCJ’s female ward has agreed that they will temporarily transfer their inmates to the latter’s facility while Naga officials will implement slope stabilization activities.

Alpon said the CCJ has been transferring female inmates to its newly-built dormitory the past days.

The jail official said partitions will be erected in the old female ward, which can accommodate 700 inmates, for new cells and amenities.

Before the transfer will take place, Alpon said Naga officials are set to meet with their Cebu City Government counterparts.

Meanwhile, Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) Reynaldo Valmoria said they cannot accept inmates from City of Naga Jail as their jail facility in Kalunasan is already congested.

CPDRC has a population of more than 3,700 inmates. It was built for 1,500 inmates.

Valmoria made the reaction after Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III expressed willingness to help in the temporary relocation of the inmates.
