LATECOMER WINS TRAIL DUATHLON

National team member Joland Olmilla arrives 20 minutes after gun start, wins by 12 minutes

National team member for duathlon Joland Olmilla had to overcome a 20-minute deficit to win the men’s open title in the Foressa Trail Duathon 2018 on Sunday, Nov. 25, in Cansomoroy, Balamban.

Olmilla arrived at the venue 20 minutes after gun start and had to rush to change into his racing gear. He ended up chasing the lead pack until the final kilometer of the bike portion and never wavered until the final run segment.

Olmilla finished the 5K run 1, 15K bike and 3K run 2 course with a total time of 2 hours and 7 minutes, beating Xterra pro Joseph Miller by about 12 minutes.

Mark Giangan was at a distant third place with a time of 3:02:02.

“I just went all out to recover the deficit. Good thing I was able to catch up,” said Olmilla.

On the other hand, the fast-rising female duathlete Pamela Jane Ruiz overwhelme­d the women’s field, clocking 3:03:50 to win the title in a dominating fashion.

Glee Marie Largo finished at second place in 3:16:40 and Vylette Kaye Alvez settled third in 3:18:50.

Kevin Panes topped the men’s Under-30 category with a time of 2:08:05 and was followed by Jorice Zabate in 2:10:40.

Rolet Cabaluna finished the race in 2:02:30 to bag the crown in the 31-40 category. Ryan Pantoja took second place in 2:19:13 and Jefferey Selvano settled third in 2:21:00.

Froilan Roble ruled the 50-above class with a time of 2:42:15. /
