GALARSE CAPTURES CETBA’S ANNUAL TITLE
There was no letdown for young bowling prospect Joshua Galarse as he captured the coveted 2018 Bowler of the Year plum of the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.
The top-seeded Galarse displayed his full arsenal as he held off veteran bowler Eric Bucoy, 208-165, 233-195, in the finals of the Cetba Bowler of the Year Tournament on Saturday evening, Dec. 1.
Galarse, a 25-handicapper, cap- tured a finals slot after topping the five-game qualifying series with a total score of 1,087 from rounds of 165, 240, 185, 221 and 151.
The fourth-seeded Bucoy, meanwhile, had a different path as he played in the step-ladder quarterfinal and semis to get to the championship round. Bucoy finished the qualifying round at fourth place with a score of 1,043.
Bucoy scored 221 in the quarterfinals to beat third-seeded Micmic Miranda and fifth-seeded Ging Francisco, who scored 219 and 212, respectively.
Bucoy, who is also the Cetba president, leaned on his experience to pull off an 235-189 win over No. 2 seeded Beth Ngo, who clinched an automatic semis slot with a 1,059 score in the qualifying.
In the head-to-head finals, Galarse made sure that there would be no upset as he posted a 43-point margin in the first game before sealing the game with a 35-point edge.
The 2018 Cetba Bowler of the Year tournament had 28 bowlers—all the male and female monthly qualifiers.
The rest of the Top 10 were Nestor Longcanaya (1,032), Marvin Sevilla (1,022), Emi Osada (1,020), Tony Calo (1,020) and Noel Tanyu (1,002). /
