South Korea puts up Sinulog dance contingent
Dancers from Wonju, South Korea will perform to showcase Korean culture as grand parade sidelight
For the first time, an international contingent will join the Sinulog 2019 grand parade as guest performer.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak says a contingent from Wonju, South Korea committed that they will be joining the Sinulog 2019 grand parade as guest performer.
“This is the first time that a foreign delegate will join Sinulog for the purpose of showing the Korean culture during the Sinulog,” he said.
In a letter to Tumulak, Junhyung Ha, director of Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival, said the group wants to perform during the Sinulog 2019 grand parade.
“Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival would like to bring high-level Korean traditional performance group to Sinulog 2019. We want to show good Korean traditional performance to audiences of Sinulog and contribute to the success of Sinulog 2019,” he said.
Ha said that their group and the City had been partners before, bringing some Cebuano groups like the Lumad Basakanon to Korea.
Tumulak, who is the chairman of the executive committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI), said Wonju’s performance is a way of showing their culture to Cebu.
It also coincides with next year’s Sinulog theme, which is “one beat, one dance for the world.”
Tumulak said Wonju will shoulder the plane tickets of their performers, but they requested the City to provide accommodation, meals and transportation.
At the moment, Tumulak said he is just waiting for the board of trustees of SFI to approve the request of Wonju for their accommodation, meals and transportation.
