Barangay Kamputhaw’s calamity funds ‘depleted’

-

The Barangay Council of Kamputhaw placed the fire-stricken area in Purok 3 under a state of calamity even though it does not have enough in its calamity fund.

Barangay Captain Jessica Cadungog said they will use what is left to help survivors.

“Right now, our treasurer is trying to determine how much money we have in our calamity fund,” she said.

Cadungog said they will also ask the Department of Interior and Local Government if they can use what remains of the barangay’s unused calamity fund in 2012 and 2013.

Cadungog said the barangay does not have much left since the fire last Wednesday, Dec. 5, was the second one to hit the barangay this year.

In August, 60 houses were also destroyed by a fire that struck Purok 3, Lower Kalunasan.

Cadungog said the area remains a no-build zone since they still have to meet with officials of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu, which owns the lot.

“The area will have to be reblocked, once we will be given the go-signal to rebuild the houses,” she said.

Atty. Liza Corro, UP Cebu chancellor, reiterated that she will wait for representatives of the barangay and the City to discuss what will happen to the residents.

Cadungog said the barangay and the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor will have to agree on the date when to meet UP officials. /
