Living a sustainable lifestyle
Vivant Corp. hosted an informative green initiative with representatives from Muni held at the Quest Hotel and Conference Center Cebu. The aim was to raise awareness that “fashion need not be harmful to the planet; caring for nature need not be the end of fashion.”
The forum, organized by Vivant Corp. led by Grant Clark, invited speakers Denise Subido of Muni and Kylie Misa of WVN Home Textiles. To begin the event, ice breakers in the form of games created a more relaxed atmosphere, making people appreciate more local culture and products.
The main objectives of the info-session: to learn about sustainable fashion and why this is important in the discussion on zero-waste; to understand the concept of sustainable fashion along with having an idea of the brands that are present in the Philippines and; to have an appreciation for sustainable fashion brands and the way they do business, zeroing in on the suppliers and the value chain of these brands.
Muni Market showcased products from merchants namely Anthill Fabric Gallery (co-founded and managed by Anya Lim—Anthill stands for Alternative Nest and Trading/ Training Hub for Ingenious/ Indigenous Little Livelihood Seekers), WVN Home Textiles (a women-owned enterprise which creates handwoven textile products based in La Union), Floreia (a sustainable fashion accessories company in Cebu that uses patented recycled materials NuCast and Naturescast) and Strozzi (prized for its handcrafted items with carefully thought through details along with that touch of spunk and quirkiness, a home-grown, customized and all-handmade jewelry brand).
Hoping to capitalize on rising consumer awareness, how can one reduce the environmental footprint of our planet with how clothing can be recycled and waste pollution reduced? Think about it.
