USC, USJ-R GUN FOR BEACH VOLLEY FINALS
No. 1 USJ-R faces CDU, No. 2 USC takes on USP-F in Cesafi beach volleyball semifinals
The female volleyball stars take center stage as teams clash in the knockout semifinals of the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) beach volleyball tournament at the Fort San Pedro sand courts on Friday, Dec. 21.
It’s going to be anybody’s game in the women’s division after the defending champion Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU-Phinma) was booted out after the elimination round.
Coming in as one of the favorites is the top-seeded University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), which will face the fourth-seeded Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU). CDU exceeded expectations by making it to the semis on its first year in Cesafi’s beach volleyball tournament.
The second-seeded University of San Carlos (USC) will take on the determined University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) in the separate semis match.
In the high school division, the girls’ defending champion USJ-R is in good position for its retention bid after finishing at second place in the elimination. USJ-R will take on the third-seeded SWU-Phinma.
USP-F is so far the surprise in the tournament as it finished on top of the ranking after missing the postseason last season. USP-F will take on the fourth-seeded University of Cebu (UC).
On the other hand, the ranking for both the men’s and boys’ divisions is still to be determined with the final games of the elimination round set on Friday morning.
The men’s and boy’s semifinals will be played on the same day after the games of the female teams. The championship matches are set on Saturday. /
