P998.7B in RPT collected in 2018

-

The Cebu City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) collected close to a billion real property taxes (RPTs) over the last 11 months this year.

The amount is already close to the 2017 collection of the CTO.

As of November, CTO already collected P998,753,432.65 which is close to the P1,017,803,037.19 collection they had in 2017.

The CTO has yet to come up with the exact collection for December since payment is still ongoing.

City Treasurer Arlene Rentuza said they aim to collect P1 billion for the whole year.

For the past years, collection in terms of RPTs has been increasing.

Rentuza said they have ongoing efforts in tax collection, including the serving of notices to delinquent taxpayers.

RPTs, among other taxes, have been identified as sources of fund for the City’s annual budget.

Rentuza said the despite the holiday, CTO accepted payments last Dec. 26 to cater to all the taxpayers.

The CTO will also be open on Monday, Dec. 31. “The succeeding days are all holidays already and we want to avoid that the collection will be officially received or credited on Jan. 3. In our system, we need to issue an official receipt dated Dec. 31 because if it will be on Jan. 3, it will generate penalties and surcharges,” Rentuza said.
