Another fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City Saturday night, Jan. 5.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received the report of the fire on C. Padilla St. past 6 p.m.

The fire was raised to third alarm at 6:21 p.m., prompting more firetrucks and volunteers in the nearby cities to respond.

It was placed under control at 6:57 p.m.

Fire investigators are still de- termining the cause of the blaze.

At dawn last Christmas Day, the City Government recorded last year’s biggest fire, which razed 391 houses and left 641 families, or 2,783 individuals, homeless.

Affected areas included Sitios Buli, Ponyang, Mansanitas, Catwalk, Plastikan, Pasong Kabayo and San Pedro.

“The area will have to be placed under ground zero. Then we will proceed with the re-blocking. The purpose of this is to avoid road encroachment to prevent the same incident from happening again,” said City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Chief Nagiel Bañacia then.

The City Council had approved a resolution declaring the barangay under a state of calamity.

City Councilor Alvin Arcilla said the fire was not only last year’s biggest, it was also the costliest, with damage estimates placed at P117,963,000.
