Tom okays Sinulog parties in malls

Official says mayor’s executive order calls for strict compliance

-

The Cebu City Government approved over five Sinulog parties and concerts that will be held on Jan. 19 and 20.

However, Councilor Dave Tumulak said one application for a Sinulog party on Jan. 20 was disapproved because it was near the 300-meter radius of the parade route.

Tumulak said the City has been strictly implementing policies that will promote public order and safety when it comes to holding Sinulog events.

Tumulak, who is also the chairman of the executive committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc., said organizers of Sinulog parties and events that were given a go-signal were required to submit security and safety plans.

Parties and concerts with approved permits from the City will be held in different malls in the city.

Tumulak reminded all organizers including establishment owners to follow the executive order (EO) issued by Mayor Tomas Osmeña, implementing a temporary entertainment ban on Sunday, Jan. 20.

“They have to abide by the EO of the mayor because the purpose of that is for their safety,” he said.

EO 44 prohibits the holding of concerts, shows, performances, events, street parties and other similar activities that require putting up or using loud speakers.

“The aforementioned activities are also prohibited along Escario St., starting from the Provincial Capitol Building up to the intersection of Gorordo Ave.,” reads a portion of the EO.

Establishments, though, that are located outside of the parade route and Escario St. may organize these activities, provided that they secure a special permit.

Aside from the entertainment ban, the selling and drinking of liquor are also prohibited along the grand parade route from 6 a.m. of Jan. 20 (Sunday) until 6 a.m. of Jan. 21 (Monday).

The liquor ban shall also apply on Escario St., starting from the Cebu Provincial Capitol Building up to the intersection of Gorordo Ave. as this road serves as an alternative route for vehicles during the Sinulog.

Business establishments along the grand parade and procession routes are also not allowed to set up tables and chairs outside their respective premises, including their parking spaces to accommodate more customers.

The regulation will be in effect from Jan. 18 to 20 (Friday to Sunday), and all other days that the City Government so declares.
