GMR-Megawide holds surgical mission

The Megawide Corporate Foundation Inc. (MCFI) and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC) held a free surgical mission at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital from Wednesday until Friday, March 6-8.

MCFI and GMCAC coordinated with World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP) to help 234 individuals with different illnesses.

Dr. Marcus Lester Suntay, WSFP president, said 173 persons underwent minor operations, while 47 availed themselves of the major operations.

“The advantage with our group, of course, is we bring our equipment,” he said.

WSFP showcased its pathology equipment, which detects a patient’s illness if it is cancerous. Most of the minor operations lasted for 15 minutes.

The youngest patient was a nine-month-old child, while the oldest was a septuagenarian.

The most difficult operation that the volunteer doctors undertook was that of a two-yearold childwho had no hole in his rectum.

MCFI and GMCAC planned to conduct medical missions in other parts of Cebu Province.

Avigael Ratcliffe of the GMCAC corporate communications said they will handle the expenses and the medicines of the patients, who were admitted in the Lapu-Lapu City hospital.

“We have Cebu-based doctors who come here every day to check on them,” she said. /
