Demecillo eyes title shot

-

Kenny Demecillo is in for the biggest fight of his life, wherein his dream of a world title shot is at stake. He’ll be fighting in a world title eliminator in the main event of a huge boxing show for the fiirst time in his budding career, which adds pressure on him.

But despite that, Demecillo is still focused and has his eyes on the prize.

“Yes, I feel the pressure. This is the biggest fight of my life so I’ll do everything to win it,” Demecillo told Sun Star Cebu.

The 26-year-old Demecillo takes on fellow world-ranked Michael Dasmariñas in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title eliminator on March 23 at the Resorts World Hotel in Pasay City.

Demecillo is training hard at the Omega Boxing Gym in preparation for the biggest fight of his life, sparring with the likes of world-rated Christian Araneta, Mark Vicelles and Ponciano Rimandiman.

“I’m almost there. I just need to shed off a few more pounds,” he said.

Demecillo is currently ranked no. 3 in the IBF, while Dasmariñas is no. 4.

Demecillo won his only fight in 2018, knocking out previously unbeaten Vyacheslav Mirzaev in five rounds in Russia.

The 26-year-old Dasmariñas also scored a highlight reel knockout last year, destroying Karim Guerfi for the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) bantamweight belt. He, however, settled to a split draw with undefeated Manyo Plange in his next fight.

Demecillo is 14-4-2 with eight knockouts, while Dasmariñas is 28-2-1 with 19 knockouts.
