From being a humble supplier of feeds to backyard raisers to becoming one of the country’s most trusted and reputable agrivet supplies companies, JM Poultry & Livestock Supply Inc. certainly has a lot to be thankful for as it celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.

JM Poultry was founded on Feb. 1, 1984 by the de Manuels, doctor Avelino, a veterinarian, and his wife Elenita, an animal nutritionist. Initially, the company was started to cater to small-scale livestock raisers and farmers.

In 1987, JM Poultry started producing its own line of premium feeds through the Universal Feed Mill Corp. or more popularly known as Unifeeds. Although the company already had a solid line-up of feeds from trusted suppliers, the addition of Unifeeds’ premium yet affordable feeds further strengthened the merchandise selection.

According to Joshua de Manuel, who is currently co-managing the company, JM Poultry’s goal is “to be the most complete agri-business store to cater to our customers’ needs.” Aside from feeds, JM Poultry also sells medication, equipment and technical support.

To date, JM Poultry has over 700 regular employees across its 89 branches nationwide, 22 of which are in Cebu. The 35th anniversary festivities were held at its store in Basak, Mandaue, which was the company’s original branch. During the week-long celebration, customers were given freebies, discounts and even free consultation from the company veterinarian.

“The employees are our most important asset,” says de Manuel. All employees undergo three months of extensive training, exposing them to the different areas of the work—from the farms and plants to the physical stores. The company also has working scholars, some of which continue to work for the company as full-time employees after graduating.

Although there are several reasons behind the company’s longevity—diversified products, good customer service—de Manuel says, “Ultimately, our business exists because of God.” Just recently, the company —led by de Manuel, Unifeed’s finance manager—donated an L300 van to Brgy. Jugan, Consolacion, Cebu.

Reaching a milestone like JM Poultry has is not an easy feat for any business to reach. It is truly admirable to see a proudly homegrown brand go far yet keep the essence of its core. With its Godcentered values and exceptional company foundation, there is no doubt that JM Poultry will only continue to grow in the years to come.
