The University of the Visayas (UV) and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) will face each other in the finals of the Division 1 Under-15 category of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) 3rd Conference after beating two Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHSAdC) squads in the semifinals last Saturday, March 9, in two different venues.

UV kept its unbeaten streak with a 49-36 win over SHS-AdC 1 at the SHS-AdC Mango Avenue Campus Gym.

SHS-AdC took the lead early on, finishing the opening period with a 10-8 lead, but UV took over in the middle quarters. UV padded its lead after outscoring SHSAdC, 37-20, in the two periods for a 45-30 advantage going into the final quarter.

SHS-AdC failed to capitalize on a weak fourth quarter by UV, scoring just six points against the Baby Green Lancers’ four.

Brian Toring led UV with 10 points, while Joash Cutamora scored 10 for SHS-AdC.

USPF, on the other hand, outclassed SHS-AdC 2, 59-35, at the USPF Gym.

USPF led from start to finish and the Baby Panthers entered the fourth quarter with a 28-point lead after outscoring SHS-AdC 2, 19-10, in the third period.

Jerwin Espina exploded with 16 markers for USPF, while Uriel Avila had 11 for SHS-AdC.

The UV vs. USPF Under-15 finals will be on March 16 at the SHS-AdC Mango Avenue Campus Gym.

SHS-AdC, however, wasn’t winless on Saturday after a comfortable 38-28 victory over Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma in the semifinals of the Under-18 division.

It was close in the first three quarters with SWU-Phima even up ahead, 15-13, at halftime.

SHS-AdC banked on a strong fourth quarter to take the win and a spot in the finals.

LA Casinillo led SHS-AdC with 11, while King Cabansay had nine points for SWU-Phinma.

SHS-AdC awaits the winner of the semifinal match between Don Bosco Technology Center and Sisters of Mary School Boystown on March 10. /
