Displaying its students’ research, learning and thinking skills through visual art, Cebu International School (CIS) featured the amazing works of its Grades 11 and 12 students in an exhibit entitled “Segments.” The exhibit is at the Active Zone atrium of Ayala Center Cebu. Opening remarks were made by Jennifer Basa, who provided an insight into the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.

Led by the IB Art Teachers Jessie Saclo III and Geraldine Ancajas-Jumao-as, the students highlighted their well-executed works with an amount of detail and precision. The pieces on display were a diverse representation of their ideas, processes and the art of making forms, prescribed in the IB DP visual arts course.

“As we go through life, memories are made and lessons are learned. Our perspectives in life differ from each other. Dividing life into parts gives us an insight into how we became the persons we are today. Our whole yet unique compositions are built upon our different forms of expression, opinions and holistic beliefs, the fragments of our existence,” read the exhibition statement. Providing entertainment throughout the evening was the Grade 9-10 student band, the CIS Chamber ensemble, as well as the general music students, before CIS Superintendent doctor Gwyn Underwood made the closing remarks for the evening.

In the hands of these student artists, this annual exhibition organized by the Grade 11 students—a precursor of the “exhibition” assessment that will transpire on the second year of their course— was a journey into learning the segments that make up the special lives of these individuals. Congratulations, dear students! (CIS is a private secular institution offering a Preschool to Grade 12 college preparatory international education.)
