THE KONA, Hyundai’s new subcompact SUV, was first launched in Cebu last March 8 at The Gallery in Ayala Center Cebu, together with the all-new Reina and new generations of the Accent and Santa Fe. Immediately, one will take notice of the Kona’s playful, two-tone design and sleek facade. There’s a gray and black colorway for something classic and then on the other end of the spectrum is the Acid Yellow, which is a standout already in saturation alone.

The Kona has a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine. It has a six-speed automatic transmission and a clutch with two modes: Sports for power and speed and Eco for less power but enhanced fuel efficiency.

The dual modes enable the driver to have control over fuel consumption depending on traffic and road conditions, making it appropriate for driving in the streets of metropolitan Cebu.

To add, the All Wheel Drive maximizes traction and better handling and maneuverability in varying road conditions.

It may be design-driven, but the aesthetics are backed with durability. One should not underestimate its compact body, as behind it are three layers of steel.

Inside, one will see the same color palette as the exterior’s. Perched in the middle is a modern dashboard, furnished with a screen display for audio, visual and navigation. The rear seats can also be folded flat to accommodate larger and bulkier items such as luggage.

For safety and security, the Kona is equipped with airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System, Smart key with button start, Immobilizer, Child Seat Anchor and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Hyundai’s latest subcompact SUV is tagged at a little over P1 million in the Philippine market. With specs and features considered, this price range is still highly competitive compared to rival models in its segment.

The Kona is available in five colors: Dark Knight, Acid Yellow, Pulse Red, Lake Silver and Chalk White.

To view and test drive the Kona, visit the Hyundai Cebu South showroom on J. de Veyra St., North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.
