Tomas pulls out vehicles of Barug-PDP candidate

- PHILIP A. CEROJANO / Superbalita Cebu / KAL

PERSONNEL from the Cebu City Government took three vehicles from the custody of Barangay Cambinocot on Wednesday, March 27.

They were authorized by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who informed Cambinocot Barangay Captain Reynald Lauron about his decision through a letter dated March 11, 2019.

Lauron is running for a seat in the City Council under the Barug PDP-Laban slate of Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is running for mayor opposite the re-electionist Osmeña in the May 13 midterm elections.

The seized vehicles were a Toyota Hi-Ace ambulance, a rescue patrol vehicle and an L300 van, which was used in transporting tanods, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and students.

The Mazda Bongo rescue patrol was left behind by the City Hall personnel as its machine has defects.

Lauron was not in the barangay hall when this all happened, and he posted his sentiments on his Facebook account.

“Sakit kaayo hunahunaon nga tungod lang sa pulitika gikuhaan og magamit ang atong barangay. Mayor Tomas, og unsay sala ni Kap nimo, ayaw iapil ang mga lumulupyo sa amo nga nagkinahanglan sa maong mga sakyanan (It is painful to think that our barangay is deprived of useful things just because of politics. Mayor Tomas, whatever Kap’s fault is against you, don’t embroil the residents because they need the vehicles),” a portion of Lauron’s post read.

Former Apas barangay captain Ramil Ayuman, who is also running for a seat in the City Council, said the vehicles were taken back by Osmeña, after only a few residents attended the mayor’s “pulong-pulong,” a political activity.

For his part, suspended Ermita Barangay Captain Mark Miral said what the mayor did was to pressure village chiefs who are not his allies.

Superbalita Cebu called Ronald Malacora, City General Services head, but he failed to provide information since he was on official leave.
