Dole 7 to create council to link jobseekers with infra projects
THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 has created the Construction Tripartite Council (CTC) to link jobseekers with the “Build, Build, Build” projects of the administration.
Dole 7 Director Salome Siaton said the key employment generator in Central Visayas, especially Cebu, is the construction industry.
Siaton noted that the slight improvement in the employment rate in the region was mostly due to the contribution of the construction sector. Employment rate in January 2019 was 94.8 percent, up from 94.2 percent in 2018.
Siaton added that the underemployment rate was 5.8 percent in January 2018, which decreased to 5.2 percent in January 2019, based on a survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Siaton said that with the CTC, there are jobs in the labor market that will match the skills of those seeking employment.
She added that the “Build. Build, Build” projects will surely create jobs, which is why Dole must be ready to help jobseekers in providing them skills through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
“One of of thrusts and directions is really to push for the compliance of the occupational safety and health (OSH) standards. The employers must follow the OSH law to avoid accidents at work,” Siaton said. /
