Cheetahs take share of lead in Elite Club

THE CHEETAHS moved back up to the top in a three-way tie with the Rams and the Tigers after a win last Sunday, March 24, in the Elite Basketball Club Cebu Season 14.

The Cheetahs walked away with a close 73-69 win over the Hawks at the Visayan Glass Basketball Gym in Guadalupe.

Chito Solis led the Cheetahs with 23 points, John Rodrigo scored 19, Michael Tan had 12 and Bryan Gumapong added 11.

Ivan Mendoza dropped 16 points in a losing effort by the Hawks, while Chamberlen­e Aldave and James Truz chipped in 15 and 12, respective­ly.

The Cheetahs moved up to 3-1 along with the Rams and the Tigers for league leadership.

Meanwhile, the Sharks outlasted the Panthers, 71-57, in a battle of two former University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.

Former USC player Ian Ortega led the Sharks with 21 points.

Mark Panerio, another USC alumnus, poured in 17 markers, while Neil Buot added 11.

The Eagles, in the meantime, was on a scoring spree, totally dominating the winless Stallions, 139-94.

The Eagles had seven players in double figures led by Jarred Nasabong’s 37 points. Mark Ynoc scored 24, Larke Bacatan added 18, Justin Mier had 17, JL Manila chipped in 16, Zwi Duran contribute­d 12 and Ryan Llanos tallied 11.

Zandro Mante and Ryan Yu had 13 markers each for the Stallions. /
