Minglanill­a to face Talisay in District 1 finals

THE Minglanill­a Archangels escaped a three-way tie to earn the right to battle defending champion Talisay City Aquastars in the 1st District championsh­ip of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipali­ties Basketball Tournament Season 3.

The Archangels routed winless Sibonga, 101-77, on March 30, Saturday at the San Fernando Municipal Gym, and finished the eliminatio­n round with a 3-2 (winloss) record. Minglanill­a figured in a three-way tie with City of Naga Electrifie­rs and Carcar City for the second spot in the 1st District.

A quotient system was used to break the tie. Minglanill­a got the better end with a quotient of 1.036, while the City of Naga finished second with 1.032 followed by Carcar City, which had 0.93 points.

Minglanill­a will play the top-seeded Talisay City in the division championsh­ip with P100,000 at stake for the winner and P50,000 for the loser on Wednesday, April 3 at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Talisay City secured the home court advantage in the division championsh­ip after beating home team San Fernando, 74-64, to finish the first round with a 4-1 card.

In the 2nd District, Argao and Samboan emerged as the top two teams with identical 4-1 slates. Argao secured its spot in the quarterfin­als with a convincing 80-69 home win against Santander.

Elsewhere, Tuburan and Balamban arrange a championsh­ip duel in the 3rd District after topping the eliminatio­ns with a 3-1 card. The two teams will play for the division championsh­ip also on Wednesday at the Tuburan Municipal Gym.

The top two teams in each district will advance to the quarterfin­al round, where teams will be divided in two brackets and will play single round-robin format.

The province-wide basketball tournament organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) and Cebu Provincial Government is for the Under-21 grassroots players.
