CEBU CITY PUJ DRIVERS TO RECEIVE DASHCAMS

- FROM PAC OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL

THE Cebu City Government will receive within April the 1,000 units of dashcams that will be distributed to the public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers.

A P5-million budget was set aside for the purchase of the dashcams.

This project was included in the annual budget that was passed last year following a series of killings in the city.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who first endorsed the project, said a dashcam could be helpful in solving a crime.

He encouraged private car owners to install dashcams, saying most crimes happened in the streets.

According to Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) operation head Francisco Ouano, the devices will be distributed to 600 PUJ drivers.

The P5,000 dashcam will only be given to a PUJ driver who can show a travel line, franchise, official receipt and certificate of registration.

The service provider, which won the public bidding, will install the dashcams on the PUJs on a vacant lot in the South Road Properties.

Ouano said that the other PUJ drivers from other places can avail themselves of the dashcam if they can present their papers.

Some of the PUJs in Cebu City ply major routes like Pit-os, Talamban, Carbon Public Market, Plaza Housing, Lahug, Apas, Guadalupe, Colon St., Osmeña Blvd., Labangon, Pardo, Mabolo, North Reclamation Area, Mambaling and N. Bacalso.

Acting Cebu City-South District Election Officer Marchel Sarno said the city government must seek permission from the Commission on Elections central office before distributing the dashcams. /
