WATER supply in six cities and towns will be interrupted for 13 hours in two days this Holy Week as Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) private supplier will conduct a preventive maintenance activity.

The Cebu Manila Water Development (CMWD) will conduct desilting work at its Carmen facility on Holy Wednesday, April 17, and Holy Thursday, April 18.

The desilting is necessary so the facility can receive more water during the rainy season and provide a steady supply to MCWD.

CMWD supplies 39,000 cubic meters (cu. m.) of water every day to MCWD, which has already lost 40,000 cu. m. of water per day due to the dry spell.

Desilting involves the removal of sand and materials brought about by streams of water to an area. CMWD does it annually during the summer months as part of mainteCebu nance activities to prevent clogging.

Affected will be MCWD consumers in elevated and interior portions of Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.

MCWD consumers in Mabolo (lower portion), North Reclamation Area, Pier area, Carreta, M.J. Cuenco Ave., Lorega-San Miguel, T. Padilla, Tejero, Tinago, and part of Imus Road in Cebu City are also urged to store water to prepare for the interruptions.

These areas will have low pressure to no water from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both dates. To ensure all customers will not be inconvenienced further, MCWD will deploy water trucks in areas that will not have any supply even after the works are completed.

MCWD will coordinate with local government units regarding the deployment of water trucks and water supply during emergencies.
