VELASCO TO HOLD CEBU WORKSHOP

Veteran broadcaste­r Bill Velasco to hold two-day workshop in Southweste­rn University on May 4-5

SPORTS columnist and veteran award-winning broadcaste­r Bill Velasco will hold his first-ever broadcasti­ng workshops nationwide this May. He has been a broadcast journalist and producer for 33 years.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do, to pay forward all the good sports and broadcasti­ng have given me,” said Velasco, who has also been doing corporate training and team-building for close to 20 years.

Through his TV creation Hardball, Bill has won the last three Gawad Tanglaw Awards for Best Sports Show. He was also nominated for an Asian Television Award in 2014. In 1989, he received a special citation from Project: Gintong Alay for his coverage of the 1989 Southeast Asian Games. That year, he also received the Scoop Broadcast Sports News Agency of the Year award.

Velasco has covered the Olympic Games, 12 Southeast Asian Games, hundreds of world title fights, and every major basketball league from the NBA and PBA on down, and has organized internatio­nal 3x3 and martial arts competitio­ns. He was a contributo­r to the Asian Basketball Show and the Asian Sports Show. His sports documentar­ies have been seen by millions of people worldwide.

The Bill Velasco Broadcasti­ng Workshops begin at the Southweste­rn University in Cebu City on May 4 and 5 with a two-day open Broadcasti­ng and Media Marketing Workshop. The workshops then head back to Metro Manila from May 11 to 12 for another two-day Broadcasti­ng and Media Marketing session. The group is organizing other classes in other provinces. Only 30 slots are allotted per workshop. A discount will be given to the first five enrollees per class.

The Bill Velasco Sports Broadcasti­ng and Media Marketing workshops are supported by Meralco and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporatio­n (Pagcor). Southweste­rn University is the venue sponsor for Cebu, and Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort in Mactan is the official residence of the workshop organizers.

Velasco will be joined by PBA legend Erik Menk in his two-day workshop in Cebu. /
