Voters told to visit poll officers before Monday

-

ARE you a duly registered voter?

If so, what should you do to avoid confusion and problems during the elections on Monday, May 13?

According to Cebu Provincial Election Officer Ferdinand Gujilde, all voters whose name appears in the Election Day Computerized Voters List are allowed to vote on Monday, except those whose names were manually crossed out.

This includes the deceased, with transferred registration, excluded by court order, availing of local absentee voting, and those who were challenged as illegal voter and for alleged illegal acts.

To ensure that the national and local elections go without a hitch, Acting Provincial Elections Supervisor Jerome Brillantes advised voters to visit their local election officers to check in which voting precincts they will cast their votes.

“The names of registered voters are posted in conspicuous public places. We encourage them to visit the election officers to verify their assigned polling precincts,” he said.

Brillantes said most of the delays during election day are caused by voters who are not in the proper polling precinct.

After verifying their polling precincts, voters are advised to proceed to the venue just to be familiar with the place.

“In that way, it would be easier for them to go to the precinct during the elections. We will be able to avoid unnecessary delays,” Brillantes said.

There are 3,716 polling precincts in the province and each has 1,000 registered voters.

On Friday, May 10, the Commission on Elections will conduct a synchronized final testing and sealing of the vote counting machines (VCM), and voters registration and verification machines (VRVM) in the province.

Brillantes said each of the more than 3,000 polling precincts will have 10 voters that will be invited in the testing of VCMs and VRVMs.
