Happy occasions

Mandaue’s most accomplished son, Justice Sotero B. Cabahug, was once again honored on his birthday last April 22 by the Mandaue City government in tandem with the Society of Cabahug Medalists Inc. headed by the dynamic Siony Flores Mendoza. The festivites held in front of his statue at the Mandaue Heritage Park included a floral offering and a program.

Highlight of the celebration was the confernment of the Cabahug medal to Marc Lennard Colina, magna cum laude graduate, BS Information Technology, from the University of Cebu. The awarding of the prestigious Cabahug medal (to the Mandauehanon with the highest honors upon graduation) was started by the late statesman several decades ago. The tradition has been happily continued by his youngest child, Guadalupe Cabahug Latonio.

“Food, fun, film, friendship”... this is how Lara Scarrow, director of sales and marketing of Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, described the hotel’s 13th anniversary celebration dubbed “13 Going On 30.” The afternoon affair at the Grand Ballroom included fun activites like themed coffee breaks, massage and facials, raffle prizes and the showing of the entertaining film “13 Going on 30.” Very much the perfect host was hotel general manager Brian Connelly. Bonding with media friends was what the lunch of Philippine Airlines (PAL) was all about. There was no particular agenda—just shooting the breeze with friends over delectable Chinese food at Hai Shin Lou of Marco Polo. Among the tidbits shared by vice president-corporate communications Josen Perez de Tagle was the news that PAL will soon have 100 airplanes, and that last year, PAL transported 16 million passengers. Senior assistant vice president-Phil. sales Harry Inoferio also added that PAL now flies to Hanoi in Vietnam and Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Welcome parties left and right marked the brief visit of Agnes Huettel who is now based in Dallas, Texas with hubby Greg and their lovely children. It was a happy reunion with old friends when Joy Uy gathered a small group for coffee and snacks at Abaca Baking Co. in Ayala Center Cebu. Oh yes, there was a lot of catching up to do. It was a garden wedding for for my nephew Arturo Ravelo III and his petite bride Shem Pafin at Malagos Garden Resort in Davao. The setting was magical—flowers fully blooming, birds a-chirping, butterflies a-flitting, and love filling the air... what can be more romantic? The young architects had the full blessings of their respective parents, Arturo Ravelo Jr. and wife Joy; and Maridel vda. de Pafin.
