MABUHAY FILCEMENT HELPS ILL SAN FERNANDO RESIDENTS

-

LIEZEL Bongcawil’s common-law partner, a mason, was told by his employer that he would be out of work after the Holy Week break last April.

With a one-year-old child to tend to at home, Bongcawil found it hard to work outside of her home in Barangay Balud, San Fernando.

Bongcawil dug deep into her family’s meager savings to make both ends meet. Hers is a family of seven.

She said she had nothing left to spend on cough medicines for herself and her children—James, 6, and Gabriela, 3.

She felt relieved when she was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the medical mission initiated by Mabuhay Filcement Inc. in Balud on April 22.

“The free medicines are a big help to us, including the free consultation because we cannot afford to spend for these at this point in time. I hope these medicines will help ease our cough,” Bongcawil said in Cebuano.

Bongcawil and her neighbor Joy Entera were among the 286 patients who availed of free doctors’ consultations and medicines.

The patients’ common complaints were cough, colds, fever and tonsillitis. They were given medication and vitamins.

The elderly residents received vitamins and supplements to fix their deficiencies in iron and other minerals.

According to Balud health workers’ leader Ester Cornelio, the residents welcomed the assistance from Mabuhay Filcement.

For his part, Balud Barangay Captain Jeevan Kin Enad thanked the company for its generosity.

“We look forward to a stronger partnership (with the company) for other development efforts in the future,” he said.

The medical mission was part of Mabuhay Filcement’s corporate social responsibility program. Its community outreach initiatives are currently being streamlined to support and enhance ongoing private and government sector efforts in public health, education and environment.

The production plant of Mabuhay Filcement, a homegrown manufacturing company, is located in San Fernando. The company has been contributing to nation building by producing high-quality and reasonably priced cement in support of a growing economy.

The company is also promoting countryside development through employment and community-outreach activities.
