THE Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) was recognized as the Most Outstanding Chamber in the Visayas and the Philippines awarded by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry during the 45th Philippine Business Conference and Expo.

MCCI president Stanley Go told SunStar Cebu that the chamber will continue implementing programs that will help grow the business community in Mandaue.

“This is the first time that we were awarded with the Most Outstanding Chamber of the Philippines. This was made possible with the strong partnership between the chamber and Mandaue City led by Mayor Jonas Cortes,” he said.

Go said the partnership between the chamber and the local government unit (LGU) plays a crucial role in every industry to reach collaboration over programs that help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“Our activities are very holistic in nature and we have events that are geared towards improving the business climate,” he said.

MCCI’s hosting of the Bakery World in 2018 brought about improvements in the baking and food industry which contributed to the recognition, Go said.

“It is really very specific to help the baking industry and also the hotels, restaurants in the island of Cebu. It was the first time that we did a bakery fair of that magnitude in Cebu. So normally if you want to go to that fair, you’ll either go to Taiwan, Japan or Manila,” he said.

The expo benefited the small and medium bakeries and restaurants that couldn’t afford to join overseas fairs.

With this recognition, Go said MCCI will craft programs and events to highlight priority areas in the economic aspects of Mandaue City.

“We will not be complacent. We will have to continue to be relevant and not just with the city of Mandaue, not just to the business but also to the community. Relevance is the key and we will continue to do our programs like our regular meetings with the mayor where business can engage with the LGUs,” he said.

The awarding ceremony was held on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 at the Manila Hotel with President Rodrigo Duterte as guest of honor.
