Governing board to promote ‘fun but socially relevant’ Sinulog 2020

-

THE Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board (CCSGB) vowed to promote a fun-filled, yet “socially relevant” celebration of the Sinulog Festival next year.

Barney Borja, CCSGB executive director, promised that the public can expect more events, and at the same time, keeping the solemnity of the celebration this coming January 2020.

“We want a more fun, more event-filled but still socially relevant Sinulog, keeping in mind the solemnity and culture of the church that is part and parcel of the entire Sinulog festival,” said Borja.

Borja said the City’s celebration of Sinulog will focus on keeping church traditions alive, while ensuring that the festival and all its related activities will make Cebu as a prime tourist destination again.

One of the main functions of the CCSGB is to coordinate all activities of the Sinulog Festival, including but not limited to cleanliness and peace and order.

The CCSGB will work closely with the Sinulog Foundation Inc. and other concerned agencies and offices.

The CCSGB will also set the general policies and guidelines in the conduct of the Sinulog Festival and related activities.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella issued an executive order last Sept. 23, 2019, establishing the CCSGB.

Aside from Borja, other members of the CCSGB are Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director Police Col. Gemma Vinluan, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7, and Department of Health (DOH) 7 officials, among others.

Award-winning Cebuano industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue and Cebu Designer Cary Santiago were also appointed by Labella to be part of the CCSGB.
