Capitol to enhance fuel expenses monitoring

-

AS PART of its economic enterprise program, the Cebu Provincial Government plans to implement a cashless scheme in filling up its service vehicles with gas.

Instead of paying in cash, drivers of Province-owned vehicles would only have to present their fleet cards when they refill the gas tanks.

This move would help the Capitol improve its monitoring of fuel expenses, and it would have a better control on its fuel consumption as well.

For 2019, the Provincial Government has allocated at least P20 million for fuel expenses.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said she wants to start implementing the fleet card program by January 2020.

The governor, who heads the Economic Enterprise Council (ECC), has already directed the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) to prepare the documents needed to open a public bidding on the matter.

Representatives of two fuel companies presented their proposals to the ECC members on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019.

Officials of Petron Corp. said around 1,700 of their 2,500 service stations have already been accepting fleet cards.

In Cebu Province, Petron has 41 service stations, including in Bantayan Island, that accept fleet cards.

Petron officials said using their fleet cards for refilling transactions can also help the Capitol monitor its fuel consumption, mileage and expenditures through their website.

The fleet cards can also be used in service stations anywhere else in the country that accept them as a mode of payment.

Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, on the other hand, will give rebates to anyone who uses its fleet cards.

The two firms have expressed interest in submitting bid proposals to the BAC. /
