Accenture launches program for PWDs

-

TO GIVE opportunities to persons with disabilities (PWD), a business process management (BPM) company unveiled its suite of accessibility solutions aimed towards employees and applicants with vision, hearing, speech or mobility impairment in Cebu.

Accenture launched its accessibility suite in its office in Ebloc 2, I.T. Park, to boost its campaign on inclusion and diversity in the information technology and BPM industry.

“We highlight two points-that the rest of our people will have to be equal and sensitive to our inclusion-policy trainings where they will be sensitive to PWD situations and second, non-discrimination,” Lito Tayag, country managing director of Accenture Philippines, said.

The suite is composed of tools like Dhvani (Hindi word for “sound”), an Accenture-developed software that creates real-time subtitles for videos and can translate voice responses into typed text and vice versa to boost the sense of hearing.

For the sense of sight, tools include color contrast and Braillesticked keyboards, electronic magnifier and non-visual desktop access, voice control technology, blind stick and mobility which includes smart lights, sliding doors, and manual and automated wheelchairs.

“As a people-driven company, we take pride in developing and pioneering initiatives for PWDs in the Philippines, which underscore our unwavering commitment in advancing inclusion and diversity and the welfare of our people,” Tayag said.

“We recognize the individuality of each of our employees-whether by age, ability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, religion or sexual orientation--and the importance of providing a work environment that enables them to be the best that they can be,” he added.

Aside from Cebu, the suite of accessibility solutions is also launched in Mandaluyong City and Alabang, Japan, China, India and Malaysia.

In the Philippines, Republic Act 10524 expands the positions reserved for persons with disabilities, providing them equal opportunity for employment. /
