PBA vows to keep helping

THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has vowed to continue lending a hand to the less fortunate even as the government moves to ease the quarantine restrictions all around the country.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial reiterated this during an online meeting held by the Senate committee on finance on Friday, May 29, 2020.

The committee headed by chairman Sen. Sonny Angara was convening to find out how the government can assist the private sector, especially with the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) still looming.

Angara was keen on finding out how businesses have been affected and what these needed to get back on track.

“Moving forward, we will determine what must be done to help them minimize their losses and preserve the jobs of their employees now that they will have to operate under a drastically different environment that we are calling the new normal,” said Angara.

However, Marcial did not ask for any help. Rather, he asserted that the league and everyone behind it will do their part to help the government help the people.

“Sa hirap nang pinagdadaanan ng lahat ay nakakaraos pa rin naman po ang PBA. At ipinararating po ng aming chairman, Mr. Ricky Vargas, na kung may i-o-offer kayong tulong ay itulong na lang po natin sa mas nangangailangan,” said Marcial.

With businesses all over the country, including those that are backing the PBA teams, struggling to keep its head above water, this has not stopped the PBA team owners from doing their part to provide assistance to as many people as possible.

This includes San Miguel Corp. big boss Ramon Ang, MVP Group owner Manny Pangilinan and Phoenix Pulse owner Dennis Uy.

NorthPort boss Mikee Romero, Alaska Milk’s Wilfred Uytengsu, Raymond Sy and Terry Que of Rain or Shine, Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater and Jose Alvarez of Columbian Dyip have also lent a hand to the needy during these trying times. /
