Tricycle drivers tasked to enforce quarantine rules
THE Lapu-Lapu City government has deputized tricycle drivers in the city to call attention to residents who fail to wear masks in public or those who fail to carry quarantine passes while outside their homes.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan launched the city’s Rekovida (Rekorida Kontra Virus sa Dakbayan) program and introducing its 80-strong tricycle drivers who will serve as its enforcers.
The program, initiated by Chan and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Annabeth Cuizon, aims to deploy the 80 tricycle drivers across the city broadcasting its reminder to constituents to keep wearing masks and to remind them to bring their quarantine pass whenever they are out of their houses.
Through the program, the city can assist the participating tricycle drivers by providing them with a P400 daily cash assistance for a month that they would serve the city.
Chan said the program aims to remind his constituents to help each other and follow quarantine protocols, especially that 27 people from his city have died due to
Covid-19.
Chan said he plans to bring before the Lapu-Lapu City Council to formally deputize the tricycle drivers so that they can conduct citizen arrest on those who violate quarantine protocols.
He believes that tricycle drivers will be encouraged to do their duty especially that they will also get paid for every violator they apprehended.
“If they are able to apprehend violators, the tricycle driver and the city can share the P1,000 fine,” Chan added.
Chan also reiterated his call to the public to cooperate with authorities especially in eradicating the Covid-19 threat within the City.
The Rekovida program formally started on Wednesday and will end on July 31. /
