New cases: Cebu City reports 150, Lapu-Lapu, 71
THE Cebu City Health Department (CHD) has recorded 150 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), 13 deaths and 88 recoveries on Thursday, July 2, 2020.
The 13 new fatalities were from Barangays Apas, Basak San Nicolas, Duljo, Kinasang-an, Labangon, Punta Princesa, Pahina Central, Sto. Niño, and Tisa with one death each; while two people died in both Barangays Guadalupe and Zapatera.
Except for one patient, the CHD said all those who died had comorbidities or the simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases in a patient.
“Others had an existing health condition, while one only had a severe pneumonia plus Covid-19,” said CHD Chief Daisy Villa.
Meanwhile, the new Covid-19 positive patients are from Barangays Apas (5), Banilad (4), Basak Pardo (2), Basak San Nicolas (2), Binaliw (1), Luz (5), Budlaan (1), Buhisan (1), Bulacao (4), Busay (5), Calamba (2), Camputhaw (11),
Capitol Site (4), Carreta (2), Duljo (1), Guadalupe (22), Guba (1), Hipodromo (2), Kalunasan (2), Kasambagan (1), Labangon (8), Lahug (17), Lorega (1), Mabolo (7), Malubog (1), Mambaling (2), Pardo (6), Quiot (1), Sambag I (1), Sambag II (3), San Nicolas Proper (1), San Roque (1), Sawang Calero (1), Sto. Nino (1), Talamban (4), Tejero (2), Tisa (11), and Punta Princesa (1); while there are three with still unverified addresses.
The 88 new laboratory-negative or recoveries are from Barangays Basak San Nicolas (4), Bulacao (1), Ermita (3), Labangon (23); Lorega (2), Guadalupe (1 ), Mambaling (1), Pasil (23), Pahina Central (7), Sambag II (13), San Roque (1), T. Padilla (1), Tejero (3), and Zapatera (5).
The CHD wrote on its Facebook page that the cases reported were the results of swab samples taken from June 29 to July 1.
Cebu City now has a total of 5,740 Covid-19 positive patients, 2,985 laboratory-negative, and 193 deaths. There are 2,562 active cases in the city.
The CHD extracted six entries from the total tally after learning that these were double entries.
The process of synchronizing the data between the CHD and Department of Health (DOH) Central Visayas is still on going.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, Cebu overseer for the Covid-19 response, has recently ordered the two offices to unify their data.
Lapu-Lapu City
Meanwhile, 71 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Lapu-Lapu City on Thursday bringing the total number of infections to 686 with 454 active cases, said Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan.
Chan said of the 71 new cases, 17 are frontliners including nurses and doctors assigned in the city’s hospitals.

“That’s how much our frontliners love their jobs. They are willing to risk their own lives just to serve others. It is heartbreaking to know that there are still people who do not value our frontliners’ sacrifice because there are still some who remain hard-headed,” Chan said in Cebuano.
Aside from the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, Chan also reported 23 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries in Lapu-Lapu City to 201 while deaths have reached 32.
