ACTIVE CORONAVIRUS CASES EXCEED 50,000

CORONAVIRUS infections continue to rise, with total active cases breaching the 50,000 mark and the National Capital Region (NCR) recording more than 2,000 new cases for the third straight day.

In its case bulletin as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, the Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 3,561 newly confirmed cases based on reports from 89 testing laboratories.

These new cases brought the total case count in the country to 119,460. Eighty-one duplicates were removed from the total.

The DOH also reported 28 additional mortalities, which raised the death toll to 2,150.

Meanwhile, 569 more patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), increasing the recoveries to 66,837.

Of the total case count, 50,473 were active cases, referring to patients who were admitted in the hospitals or in quarantine.

Nine of every 10 active cases had mild symptoms, while eight of every 1,000 (0.8 percent) were severe cases and five of every 1,000 (0.5 percent) were in critical condition.

Among the 3,561 new cases, 2,041 came from NCR or Metro Manila.

Other provinces with the highest number of new cases were Laguna with 222, Cebu with 221, Cavite with 100 and Rizal with 81.

Metro Manila and the provinces of Laguna, Cavite and Rizal reverted to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on Aug. 4 because of the rising cases.

Cebu City, which reverted to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ in the last 30 days, shifted to the more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ) on Aug. 1.
