DEMECILLO WANTS DASMARINAS REMATCH

-

IF GIVEN another chance, slugger Kenny Demecillo believes that he can beat International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 1 ranked bantamweight Michael Dasmarinas in a rematch.

“I think I can beat him if I’m healthy,” said Demecillo.” I can take his punches. I just got tired.”

The 28-year-old Demecillo fought Dasmarinas in an IBF bantamweight title eliminator on March 23, 2019 at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre of the Resorts World Hotel in Pasay City.

Dasmarinas beat Demecillo by unanimous decision with scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 115-113.

Demecillo believes that he can take Dasmarinas’ punches. However, he wasn’t in top shape for that fight because he was suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI).

“I think I lacked the pressure in that fight. I easily got tired because I suffered from UTI in that fight,” he said.

Demecillo, once world rated, failed to return to his native Iligan City because of the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He’s keeping himself busy by training under the watchful eye of his older brother Marco, who’s also a fighter.

“I’m training so that when there is an offer to fight, I’ll be ready,” said Demecillo, who’s now training at the RWS Gym.

Demecillo hasn’t fought for over a year. He’s eager to return to the ring as soon as the Games and Amusements Board allows the resumption of boxing in the Philippines.

“I have not fought for a long time. I’ll fight whoever wants to fight me here,” he said.

Another fighter that Demecillo has in his radar is fast-rising bantamweight Carl Jammes Martin.

“I also want that fight,” said Demecillo. “I’m not confident that I’ll beat him but I’ll give him a very good fight.”

Demcillo has a record of 14-5-2 with eight knockouts. He’s known for his brawling style that earned him his reputation of always giving fans their money’s worth. /
